Mykola Tomenko: We have opened Ukrainian Natural Wonders for the Whole World
Mykola Tomenko, the Vice-Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine in the morning air on radio "ERA-fm" has announced that reservation "Askania-Nova" that in its group "Forests, National parks, National Reservations" is on the 4th place, has chances to follow the next stage to which 11 winners are directed.
"We have overcome a long path and achieved some how our victory as from the best 56 national reservations of the world, Askania Nova takes the 14th place. During the voting period the web site have visited and voted thousands of visitors and not only from Ukraine", - M. Tomenko declared.
"For the present day, we have our victory that million people in different countries of the world has opened for themselves unique natural object of Ukraine, and consequently have opened Ukraine from the new angle. A great victory is that thousand Ukrainian people have opened for themselves biosphere reservation in Kherson region Askania Nova. it is known that during the action conduction the total quantity of visitors in reservation increased on 20% in comparison with the previous year and in the may of the current year the record in comparison with all the independence years visitors have been fixed (approximately 3 thousand visitors each day). This is the result of participation of Ukraine in the action "7 Wonders of Ukraine" as well as in the World Campaign", - he emphasized.
Mykola Tomenko as the Chairman of the organizational committee of the action "Let us show the World Natural Wonders of Ukraine" asked for the being more active during the last two days of the voting and receive for Ukraine right to participate in semi-final of the worldwide action.

Askania-Nova is a biosphere reserve in Kherson Oblast, Ukraine, located within the dry Tavriya steppe. The natural reserve was established in 1874 by landowner Friedrich Eduardovych Falz-Fein around the German settlement Askania-Nova . The reserve consists of the acclimatization zoo, botanical garden (2.1 km²), and a virgin steppe preserve (110 km²), and has total area of 825 km².
New 7 Wonders of Nature is a contemporary effort to create a list of seven natural wonders chosen by people through a global poll. It is being organized by a Swiss-based New Open World Corporation (NOWC), after its success in organizing the New Seven Wonders of the World, which where chosen by more than 100 million votes in the first-ever global campaign.
The project is still in its initial stage, and is open to nominations until 31st December 2008. Voting for nominees will continue through July 7, 2009. Then the New7Wonders of Nature Panel of Experts, under the leadership of Prof. Federico Mayor, the longest-standing former Director-General of UNESCO, will review the top 77 nominees and choose the 21 finalists, to be announced on 21 July 2009. The 21 finalists will then be put to popular vote. The final declaration of the New7Wonders of Nature will be in 2011.
